Dekton worktops represent a new era of fine craftsmanship when it comes to both interior and exterior design. These surfaces are used everywhere in the world from home to office as they amplify the space they are put in. What is so special about Dekton in applications such as kitchen worktops is that even with heavy usage; its colour neither fades nor loses its charm. Furthermore, its heat, scratch, and stain resistant properties render it highly usable. Not just in kitchens, but Dekton countertops find a great use in the backyard as a bar worktop, where alcoholic drinks, even spilt, do not cause harm to the surface, and neither do the UV rays from the sun. Yet, some maintenance, care, and usage precautions need to be taken since Dekton, like other surfaces, and although extremely string and resistant to many different things, are not indestructible. So, let us see what these precautions are.
Maintenance:
All Dekton surfaces are practically non-porous and enjoy high-resistance from staining in everyday usage. For a general cleaning, Cosentino recommends using a Q-Action with a sponge containing soft fibres. You may also use soap and water, but ensure that the soap has a neutral pH value.
Cleaning stains that have set in:
When you encounter aggressive stains, either caused by products that are resistive substances or due to negligence over time, that is set in very deep, you should use solvents. Here we have outlined types of stains and their corresponding cleaning products.
Stain | Solvent |
Cleaning Products | Rusty lime scale, residual cement, gesso, wine, coffee |
Grease & Oil, Wine, Ice Cream, Coffee | Acid |
Alkaline detergent | Cola, fruit juices, nicotine |
Grease & oil, ink, tyre rubber, resin, nail varnish, candle wax, epoxy adhesive, tar, nicotine | Oxidant |
A few things to keep in mind-
- Acidic cleaning products can contain acids or descaling agent.
- Alkaline products must be basic in pH value such as ammonia.
- Solvents are universal solvents, turpentine (white spirit), acetone, alcohol.
- Oxidants include products with hydrogen peroxide, diluted bleach, etc.
When Dekton is used as kitchen worktops, you can prevent knocks by avoiding exposed areas such as corners, edges, bevels, etc.
Using hot objects over Dekton worktop surface:
Dekton is manufactured under extreme temperatures, so, for household purposes, you can place hot utensils directly on the surface top, unless it is an 8mm surface which demands the use of protection under the hot utensils. You can get more information on these surfaces from the internet where dozens of owners have given Dekton reviews.
Some precautions to adhere by:
- Avoid direct contact with metallic parts of an electric broiler, cooking worktops, ovens, radiation at high temperatures like barbecues, etc.
- There should not be a direct contact with flame.
- Surface polishing is not required for Dekton.
